Congrats you made it in!
The goal of this project was to create a digital greeting card. I was inspired by this animation my professor showed the class.
I decided to do a comedic coming out card in after effects. In order to really play up the humor I made everything as wacky as possible, and I hope it shows. I'm honestly astounded my professor let me get away with this.
Digital rough

As this is a coming out card, I wanted to make this as gay and flamboyant as possible. So obviously I added a rainbow, some stars that looked like glitter, and some gay icons (including yours truly). The idea was that the celebrities at the top would be spinning, and my face would be pasted on the thinker statue as it is a symbol of serious thought and a buff dude so I thought it fit.
storyboards

As the project progressed to the storyboarding stage it was important to introduce the design elements in a gradual manner in order for proper set ups and pay offs such as starting with the thinker isolated, having a thought bubble, then showing the question "what is a gay" which is a humorous on its own right. Another example of a set up and pay off was the line up of gay icons passing by ending with text saying "me" indicating to the audience that I am indeed "a gay".
As a rainbow is very synonymous of gay culture its introduction had to be significant, so inspired by the "The More You Know" PSAs I decided to have the rainbow beam in, with my face instead of the star to add to the humor and cause I'm a star.
Final motion graphic
When reaching the motion stage, a two layers of stars where added moving at different speeds to create a sense of depth in the motion. Sparkling sound effects were added during the motion of the rainbow beam to create a sense of impact and comedic effect. White boarders were added on the moving images to create a scrapbook effect, which would then turn to rainbow boarders to give a sense of finality to the graphic.
