The goal of this project was to design an alternative special edition vinyl record and cover for FKA twigs’s mixtape CAPRISONGS. The album has an electronica r&b sound to it, and uses the audio of a VHS player as a motif throughout the mixtape with themes of growth and rebirth.
The visual language used was VHS tapes unraveling to make it look like the subjects were either being formed by the tapes or shedding off the tapes as if they were shedding away their old selves.
Front cover

Bright cool gradients were chosen to indicate the electronic sound of the album as well as the beauty of femininity. The artist even describes on the mixtape wanting to be “the rock star girlfriend”. The Vinyl Disc itself has its own metallic holographic glitter finish to reflect the visual language used throughout the piece and give a sense of premium exclusivity.
Back Cover

The back cover uses a CRT TV with a VHS player to display the tracklist to match the VHS tapes used throughout as well as giving a sense of nostalgic reflection. While using typography based on the "VIDEO" text used to determine and identify what source the TV is outputting.
Inside

The inside spread uses the artist’s own star signs mentioned in the mixtape (Sun, Moon, Venus) and is what the album is named after Capricorn + Sun + Songs = CAPRISONGS. With the envelopes holding the vinyls being matching composition of the inside spread to create a triptych.

The other side of the envelopes holding the vinyls show VHS tape boxes with the track list of each specific disc displayed in the manner of classic VHS box collections of television shows. With the two opposite halves of the artist's face having the option to combine together to symbolize one's own inner healing process.
